Pioneers of STEAM thinking and collaborative solutions

The STEAMhouse Community has been growing from strength to strength since the launch our initial STEAMhouse Funded Programme in 2018, yet our STEAM thinking and collaborative support activities began much earlier than this. Over the years, our Community has developed into an active collective of innovators, inventors, strategists, practitioners, designers, makers, experts, business leaders, visionaries, boundary pushers and risk takers.

Our Community hosts collaborative activities that bring together skills, knowledge and thinking from across the five STEAM disciplines* with expertise and opportunities from entrepreneurs and leaders of start-up, micro, small, midsized and large businesses, and public and third sectors.

We don’t just guide, we listen, share, encourage and experiment. Our community works collaboratively to explore new possibilities, and we build on that potential together, developing new STEAM thinking to achieve mutually beneficial and impactful solutions for business and societal challenges.

What our members have to say

I learned digital skills, pushed boundaries with VR, prototyped a product, filed for patents, attracted a major sponsor – and all while studying gaming technology at BCU

Aston Walker, Company Director at ARAIVR Systems Ltd.

Why wouldn’t you get involved? Such fantastic opportunities to collaborate and try out ideas on our doorstep. Highly recommend!

Shaheen Ahmed, Artist

STEAMhouse has helped in every area, including improving on my carpentry skills which was invaluable. Having the space to build, combined with the right tools, was a dream.

Faye Rowse, Start-up owner

STEAMhouse provides a pillar of support and everyone takes the time to understand our needs. We can make changes to our prototype, using expensive kit, that we can’t do elsewhere.

Jack Cornes, Co-founder of Hausbots

Building academic connections is an increasing priority, fuelled by the need to recruit real talent to grow. Collaborating with undergraduates enables this, while adding value to their projects, and our understanding of the topic research area.

John Armstrong, Head of Information Technology, ABP Food Group

What drives our community?

Our diversity is our strength and our multidisciplinary approach to developing new STEAM thinking is what inspires us. Our backgrounds, skills and expertise may differ, but we are all the same in our collaborative approach to finding unique and impactful solutions:

We are open

We are curious

We are passionate

We are collaborative

We are inventive

We are productive

We are visionary

We are STEAMhouse

Our new home, designed with collaboration in mind

Our community, activities, solutions and successes have developed tenfold since our inception. So much so, we are now creating a bigger and better, purpose-built collaborative centre in the heart of Birmingham, in which to house our Community and base our STEAM thinking and business support activities.

The STEAMhouse Building, due to open early 2022, offers c. 100,000 square feet of state of the art and accessible facilities, tools and spaces to enable greater Community collaborations, and to help your business or organisation achieve its goals.

We invite you to join our Community

Our collaborations, thinking and solutions would not have as much meaning, or impact, if we were only doing this for ourselves. We thrive on learning, experimenting, pushing boundaries and growing as a Community.

We are keen to understand what’s inspiring the forward thinkers of our region and beyond; the vision you have for the future and how we as a Community can support you in achieving your goals to drive positive business and societal change.

Want to explore new possibilities and become part of our collaborative Community?

The STEAMhouse membership programme launches in January 2022. Members will gain full access to all facilities, tools, events, and support, as well as opportunities to collaborate with likeminded peers, businesses, academics, and creatives within the STEAMhouse community.
