Marie-Anne McQuay, Head of Programme at Bluecoat, Liverpool, joins us for an informal conversation about her how she works with artists.
Led by our Creative Director Ruth Claxton, this is the latest in a series of events designed to demystify the commissioning process and help artists understand how different curators and organisations work, and how projects and relationships with artists evolve.
Marie-Anne McQuay has been Head of Programme at Bluecoat, Liverpool (the UK’s oldest contemporary arts centre) since November 2014. Recent solo exhibitions and projects at Bluecoat include commissioning new work by Larissa Sansour, Jonathan Baldock, Adham Faramawy, Elaine Mitchener, Jade Montserrat and Grace Ndiritu. She was also recently guest international director for Wales in Venice 2019 presenting artist Sean Edwards’ solo presentation Undo Things Done which now tours across 2020-21.
Previously she was Curator at Spike Island, Bristol (2007-2013), working with artists including Elizabeth Price, Laure Prouvost, Can Altay, Sonia Boyce, Cevdet Erek, Melissa Gordon, Sean Edwards, Uriel Orlow, Amanda Beech, Craig Mulholland, James Richards and Jesse Jones.
This event is exclusively for STEAMHouse members
