18:00pm - 20:00pm
STEAMhouse, Belmont Works, Cardigan St, Birmingham B4 7RQ
Join us for an in-person session led by School of Law Lecturer Mitchell Longan.
This workshop is the second part in a series on practical legal education for working artists.
In this session we will cover basic contract law and important considerations for creatives, including discussing:
- What a contract is
- How contracts are formed
- Their limitations
- What various terms mean
- Generally how artists can protect themselves with the contracts they create or sign.
There will also be opportunities to test what we have just learned as Mitchell guides participants through an example of a real artist’s contract, helping them to understand what the implications of each section are.
Our Workshop Leader
Mitchell is a dual-educated academic with experience in both American and UK/EU legal systems. He has also worked previously as an artist and is keenly interested in the intersections of law and creativity. The majority of his research has developed around new technology, creative expression, and the way the law functions as a means to promote and protect that expression.
