Recruit, Retain & Release

Recruit, Retain & Release – Tuesday 3rd October 2023 at 10:00am

Join us for this interactive and knowledge-packed event, where Liz Burley will guide you through the process of identifying the skills gap in your organisation and providing actionable strategies to overcome it. Learn how to craft a strong company culture that attracts top talent and retains employees, ensuring the long-term success of your business.

– Do you have right contracts in place for your staff/interns?

– Are you aware of the right legal compliances?

– How do you address the skills gaps within your company?

As the business landscape continues to evolve, SMEs often face the challenge of finding qualified talent to meet the increasing demand for their products or services. Additionally, hiring your first employee/additional employees, can be a complex process with legal and compliance obligations that might feel overwhelming.

Our experienced speakers will walk you through the step-by-step journey of hiring your first employee/additional employees, from creating compelling job descriptions to conducting effective interviews that yield the perfect fit for your team.

The session will demystify compliance and legal considerations, helping you navigate employment laws with ease and confidence, so you can stay focused on your business growth.

The session will share valuable insights into strategic workforce planning, aligning your hiring decisions with your long-term business goals to create a sustainable and thriving future.

Recruit – Getting it right from the start:

-How to hire well – recruitment processes, compliance, hiring the right talent (short term, long term), alternative routes for filling the skills gap

-Different hires and their legal rights (employees, zero hours workers, self-employed freelancers, ‘interns’) – who is the right fit?

-Compliance and Contracts (full time, part time, zero hours, freelance) – boring but important etc

Retain – Building for the future

-Training and development

-Roles and responsibilities

-Failing fast – probation, appraisals and performance/behaviour management

Release – protecting your business

-D is for dismissal – does it matter how I let them go?

-Competition, confidentiality and IP – Is my business protected?

-Thorny issues – removals (of directors), references, restrictive covenants.

Who should attend?

This workshop is suitable for SMEs, Sole Traders, Artists, Product Development Managers or anyone tasked with taking on additional members of staff, interns or freelancers to support their business.
