Steps to Becoming a More Sustainable Business – DO – Final event of a 3-part workshop – Tuesday 8th November 6-8pm (Dinner provided)
This new collaborative 3-part workshop, in partnership with STEAMhouse and BEC (Birmingham Enterprise Community) seeks to support entrepreneurs, start-ups and scaleups by providing lessons and services that can help new entrepreneurs leap further and faster from thinking big to doing big things with their business ideas.
About the workshop
DO – Final Part of a 3-part workshop is designed to address the growing need of sustainability practices in business and the shift towards business that incorporates people and planet as well as profit – giving you the tools, education and drive to pioneer meaningful change throughout various levels in your organisation.
As an SME or sole trader it can be tricky to know where to start when it comes to sustainability. Moving forwards in this space is held back by time, money and lack of knowledge. Knowledge out there can be totally overwhelming for business owners or employees taking on this responsibility.
During this session, we will encourage businesses to:
-Think about sustainability means to them and where it relates to their business
-Hear from businesses working towards a sustainable future and putting knowledge into practice.
What will I take away from the session?
-Recognise and make plans to avoid the potential pitfalls that arise when changing organisational culture.
-Setting the scene within businesses, covering; business capacity, jobs, resilience, health, community and environment.
-Reflection across the 3 workshops

About the Facilitators
Maddie Booth
Maddie has vast experience supporting businesses on becoming more sustainable from start-ups to multi-million pound companies. During her time consulting so far, she has trained over 120 CEOs and Founders in sustainability and led over 40 businesses on the way to net zero. Maddie has a strong track record of making and driving change and takes a collaborative but firm approach to inspire cross functional teams to (over) deliver. She leads directly on training, consulting and outreach in sustainability within Bec. Her portfolio includes large scale businesses but also newly started entrepreneurs, from 4 countries across the world including Chile and Hungary, as well as in the West Midlands Region. Maddie is also the Founder of Scrubbee UK, a circular cosmetic brand where she puts her knowledge of resource efficiency and sustainability into practice. Suzanna Jones
Lead Sustainability Consultant at South and City College overseeing the college’s Sustainability Strategy and Sustainability Roadmap. Sarah King
Sarah King is an interdisciplinary design researcher and the Materials Science technician at STEAMhouse. Her primary role is to support members across the various routes in areas such as materials development, surface design, print and product prototyping. She also co-runs the Materials Club and supports specific members in research projects related to new materials development.
