About this Event

Join us for the latest online edition of Maker Monday on Monday 9th November, our fortnightly slice of online inspiration from the creative and tech worlds.

As always, we will keep the inspiration flowing with some shorter, impactful talks, lots of sharing, content and space for discussion.

This month, our event takes a slice of inspiration from the city of Lisbon and the amazing work that Susy Silva and Andre Martin are doing to nurture creativity and support artists in the city.

Do Makers Need Incubation?

1. Creative incubators as places for nurturing the entrepreneurial skills, clustering creativity and generating new ideas.

2. The rise of creative industries, as entrepreneurial activities fostering individual creativity, skills and talent, are an important factor in employment, reskilling and economic growth.

3. Nowadays, incubators, makerspaces, co-working spaces and other ventures concentrating creative workforce are very important tools for new approaches to manufacturing, arts, culture and economy.

The rapid changes in industrial processes and the revolution of digital technologies have created an entirely new demand, as an important and growing part of the global economy, located at the interface of culture, business and technology.

Susy Silva

Working in policy development and strategy for Lisbon’s Cultural and Creative Economy Cluster for the City Council of Lisbon since 2008, I have been involved with entrepreneurs, policymakers, researchers, and ecosystem leaders to improve the success rates of creative businesses by improving ecosystem vibrancy, focusing on collaborative ecosystems and innovation sourcing.

Project manager for Urban Manufacturing @interregeurope and Head of Programmes & Partnerships at @mourariacreativehub for the City of Lisbon, I am currently devoted to experimenting and facilitating learning and innovation journeys for systemic impact and socio- economic changes.

Andre Martins

Graduated in Architecture, he works for the Municipality of Lisbon since 2003, having gone through various services. His practical side took him to work in 2015-2016 at FabLab Lisboa where he developed several projects related to 3D modeling and machining and electronics.

As coordinator of technical resources at the municipal prototyping laboratory, he contributes to the materialization of ideas and the realization of projects within the scope of CML’s innovation and entrepreneurship strategies. The evolution to more strategic and complex areas such as robotics or smart cities has thus become a natural path. He is currently responsible for the Open Innovation area of the Department of Innovation and Strategic Sectors, coordinating projects such as Lisboa Robotics, and the Smart Open Lisboa pilot program, which brings together public and private actors from different scales operating in the city.
