BHXR Hosts Construction Industry Tech Showcase Day
STEAMhouse recently hosted a Industry Showcase Day targeting local construction industry practitioners.
The team reached out to businesses who are curious about the possibilities of digital technologies but don’t know where to start and are unclear on how it can improve the projects and workflow.
The service was developed as a mechanism to help dissolve those barriers and triage new clients to longer term support from Birmingham City University (BCU) such as contract research or KTPs.
Attendees at the service test included some of the biggest names in the construction sector such as Gensler, Willmott Dixon, Associated Architects, WinVic, Morgan Sindall alongside a cohort of BCU students.
The technology on display was the Matterport camera which is an industry leading 3d scanner capable of producing immersive 360 virtual tours of internal spaces.
The attendees were treated to a series of keynote speakers through the day session. Matterport provided an introduction into the technology and detailed some of the innovative wider development work their dev team are undertaking to widen the workflow opportunities of the camera.
There were also presentations from Willmott Dixon Construction Group and Revizto focusing on the wider industry applications of the Matterport technology on their construction project workflows.
The day concluded with a live scan of the venue, providing guests with valuable hands-on experience using the technology. This offering is now being developed and refined by the STEAMhouse team, and will be one of the service offerings available in the new STEAMhouse building in the new year.
The team are looking to include academic support and input in future iterations of the Industry Showcase Events.
