Exciting plans to hold BCU’s first International STEAM Conference are going ahead with the event now being organised as an online knowledge-sharing day in July and a one-day on-campus research and industry conference in the Autumn, rather than the two-day event that was originally intended.

The online knowledge-sharing day will be held on Monday 13 July and contain a line-up of international keynote speakers, representatives from BCU and STEAMhouse along with interactive discussions around the conference themes of Courses and Curriculum, Makerspaces and Communities of Practice, Innovation and Industry, and Creativity the Arts and the Sciences.

BCU has a strong reputation in STEAM practice and thinking built on many years of project work in the field and the success of STEAMhouse Phase 1. Launching this conference is an important forward step in strengthening BCU’s reputation and extending the University’s academic reach internationally.

Senior Development Manager Dr Tom Cahill-Jones explains;

“In light of the situation with COVID-19, the organising committee has taken the decision to re-imagine the conference as a one-day online knowledge-sharing event. We are currently working on the schedule and our line-up of speakers and hope to be making some exciting announcements in the next few weeks. By moving the conference online we aim to continue our support for cross-disciplinary knowledge whilst ensuring the safety of our delegates and speakers”.

“In addition to the online event we are planning to hold a one-day research and industry conference at the University in the Autumn of 2020 which will include a renewed call for papers”.

“We are confident that these rescheduled events will hold true to the goals of STEAM, providing a platform for all those interested in the intersection of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths”.
