Prepare to be inspired as we extend our heartfelt invitation to you for Wednesday 17th April at 17:30 to the Birmingham launch of Reframe: Directors’ Cut, created from an audio-visual installation programmed as part of London’s Southbank Centre in Summer 2023.

Created by young Black and Black dual-heritage creatives in Birmingham, Manchester and London as part of Reframe: The Residency, the film features the powerful responses of 77 Black artists to climate change combining film, photography, music and sound. Taking place at STEAMhouse, this event is not just a gathering, but a vibrant celebration of creativity, diversity, and resilience.

Reframe: Directors’ Cut is the culmination of artistic brilliance from young Black and Black dual heritage creatives across Birmingham, Manchester, and London. Through this film, 77 Black artists, 23 from the West Midlands, confront the pressing issue of climate change with unparalleled depth and creativity, weaving together photography, film and music to create a mesmerising experience that will leave you in awe. We’re inviting you to get together with the community and celebrate the achievements made by this talented group of creatives.

In addition to the film screening, there’ll be some live performances from the Birmingham Cohort and you’ll experience examples of the artists’ captivating photography across STEAMhouse in the brand new Digital Labs and Atrium space.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Immerse yourself in the endless possibilities our new Digital Lab has to offer for SMEs and creatives, with opportunities to get familiar with AR, VR, motion capture and podcasting to augment the arts.

This event is more than just a launch – it’s a celebration of collaboration, diversity, innovation and community so don’t miss your chance to be part of this exhilarating experience. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Reframe: The Residency was originally produced by the Southbank Centre with Factory International in Manchester and Birmingham City University’s STEAMhouse and Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham, and was supported by Apple. The programme was developed to reach and support Black and Black mixed heritage creatives aged 18 – 30 looking to take their career in the creative sector to the next level.
